How to connect macOS so that your can use Mail.app, Calendar.app, and Contacts.app with your Nextcloud installation on Fedrated Core.

This documentation is for users and administrators, not those wanting to install.

MacOS supports all the open protocols required to connect to your Nextcloud installation on Federated Core.

Internet Accounts

We configure access to common servers on macOS using the “Internet Accounts” option in “System Settings”.

You will want to choose the type of service you want to setup. We want to choose “Add Other Account…” This will give us access to options to set up email, calendar, and contacts.

Setting up email

Choose the option for “Mail account”.

You can put in your Federated Core email address and password, but the lookup witll fail.

You will need to put in the information for your Federated Core IMAP and SMTP server.

Here are the correct values:

  • Email address: your email address for your Federated Core account.
  • +
  • User Name: your email address for your Federated Core account.
  • +
  • Password: your password for your Federated Core account.
  • +
  • Incoming Mail Server: mail.domain.com (where “domain.com” is your domain name).
  • +
  • Outgoing Mail Server: mail.domain.com (where “domain.com” is your domain name).

Then you can sign in and choose which apps you want to use with your connected Federated Core account.

Now your Federated Core mail should show up in the Mail.app on your Macintosh computer.

Setting up calendar

You’ll go back to the section above for “Internet Accounts” and choose, this time, to set up a “CalDAV” account.

You put in the correct information for the calendar account in your Nextcloud installation.

You want to choose “Manual”. Here are the other values:

  • User Name: your email address for your Federated Core account.

  • Password: your password for your Federated Core account.
  • +
  • Server Address:

We get the server address from the Calendar application in Nextcloud. You click on the “pencil” icon and then get the following dialog…

Click on “Copy private link” and use that in the “Server Address” field above.

Now your Nextcloud calendar should show up in the Calendar.app on your Macintosh computer.

Setting up contacts

You’ll go back to the section above for “Internet Accounts” and choose, this time, to set up a “CardDAV” account.
